Documents collection

The collection includes some 16,000 documents covering the period from the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia in 1918 to the present day, comprehensively documenting the history of Latvia and its people, as well as the lives and activities of people of Latvian origin worldwide.

The documents cover diverse topics of the history of agriculture, craft, commerce, industry, construction, finances, politics, education and culture. It includes personal documents, membership cards of various organisations, certificates, diplomas, as well as documents on events in Latvia during World War II and life in Latvia during the Soviet occupation. The collection also contains documents that testify to the repressions of the occupying regimes against the Latvian population, as well as the life of the deportees in remote areas of the Soviet Union. A significant part of the collection consists of documents on political, economic and cultural life in Latvia after the restoration of independence.
