Tools and household objects collection
LNMH tools and household objects collection contains over 10,000 wooden and metal objects made in the 18th–20th centuries. The collection reflects the life and work of a 19th-century Latvian farmer in the most comprehensive way. The collection’s objects also give an insight into 20th-century decorative and applied arts.
The most widely represented in the collection are tools for leatherworking and hornworking, beekeeping, woodworking and construction, flax processing, animal husbandry and farming, food processing and preparation, fishing and hunting.
The collection also includes a wide range of household objects: lighting equipment, furniture, measuring devices, musical instruments, toys, crockery and cutlery, etc.
The tools and household objects collection also preserves items of applied folk art, representing traditional crafts from all regions of Latvia, covering the period from the mid-20th century to the present day.
The collection also contains items from elsewhere in Europe, Asia, Australia and Oceania, and Americas. These objects have been donated to the Museum by private individuals – prominent Latvian scientists, artists and public figures, as well as by various institutions.
