Phaleristics collection

The phaleristics collection consists of Latvian and foreign decorations. There is a thematically extensive and numerically large collection of agricultural societies and exhibitions award medals (mid-18th century–1940). The largest and most thematically diverse part of the collection consists of badges and tokens.

The pride of the collection is the awards of the Republic of Latvia. The museum holds the only known complete set of the Order of Lāčplēsis, the chain and star of the Order of the Three Stars, awarded in 1930 to the President of the Republic of Latvia Alberts Kviesis and the First Class Order of Viesturs.

The initiator of the collection was the Riga Latvian Society Science Commission; later, it was regularly supplemented and improved. Since the 1990s, a collection of awards of institutions, organisations and municipalities of the Republic of Latvia has been systematically gathered.
