Popular Front Museum
The Popular Front Museum tells the story of the Latvian people’s struggle for independence in the late 20th century and its driving force, the Popular Front of Latvia.
Through active collaboration with participants and contemporaries of the historic events of the Third Awakening, the museum organises discussions and events explaining the non-violent resistance movement’s role in building a democratic civil society.
The museum’s collections and permanent exhibition extensively present the Baltic Way – the international campaign included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme’s register of documentary heritage. The Popular Front Museum offers educational classes and lectures, exciting stories of courage, solidarity and inspiration in the pursuit of Latvia’s independence for different audiences, especially the younger generation.
The Popular Front Museum is home to celebrations of important Latvian national holidays and thematic events; it initiates traditions of social importance.
